Performance improvements
We wanted to spend time on improving the performance of the community. Your experience with Open Social is at the heart of our product. Our tests show whopping improvements of 15-20% for page loading times! That’s not all. We increased the perceived performance for users by using a technology inspired by Facebook. It loads content on the page as fast as it can 🚀.

The content on your page will be loaded faster than before.

Mention and search others using nickname
Now you can mention and search other users using their nickname when the nickname field is enabled for user profiles.  This function is not yet implemented on the admin people overview.

Text improvements when viewing or downloading a file
When you view or download any file on Open Social, the text used to say “Open file in a new window”. However, we didn’t think that fit the expectations of users accurately so we changed it to "Open or download file".

Bug Fixes

  • All usernames displayed correctly: We won’t discriminate! We have now ensured that usernames with an apostrophe are displayed correctly throughout the entire platform. This was incorrectly reported fixed before, but this time it really is fixed (pinky swear).
  • Information tab placed correctly: The information tab on a user’s profile is now always displayed on the very right, which wasn't always the case before.
  • Data policy revert button works again: The data policy revert button became hidden after the previous release. We brought it back and made sure it functions well again.
  • Image cropping improved: Previously, when the height of an image is greater than its width, the default image cropping does not work well for square images such as profile images,  which leaves black space on each side. This bug is solved in this release.
  • Comment edit screen is improved for content and site managers:  The comment edit screen for content and site managers did not have a proper layout due to several unnecessary fields. These fields are removed in this release.
  • Button text color corrected for buttons in text editors: When adding buttons in text editors, the button text colors were different from the rest of the site. Now the colors are corrected.
  • Default content visibility setting is respected: Now the platform-wide default visibility setting is respected during content creation. Please note, when content is placed inside a group, the default visibility setting will be set based on the group type instead.
  • Notifications translated correctly: The notifications about likes in the notification center were not translated properly. This has been fixed!
  • Improved topic overview in a group: Topics are now sorted according to the date it was created (descending) in a group. The newest topics are always on the top of the overview now.
  • Translation of placeholder text works correctly: The hint text “add a comment” in comment forms could not be translated. This issue has been fixed.
  • And many more...

Security update

This release also contains a fix for a security issue.

The security issue could potentially allow attackers access to pages which they shouldn't. This issue was found in Drupal, the open source content-management framework Open Social is built upon.

Good news! There is no indication that this vulnerability was exploited for Open Social. The Open Social team was on standby and quickly released a fix.
