New Features/ Enhancements

There are several improvements in this release:

  • Colour configuration improvements

1. Navigation menus color configuration:  site managers can now configure a lot more colors of the site. For example the background and text colour of the header navigation menu and the secondary navigation menu that is used for user profiles, groups, and events.

2. Colour configuration preview: site managers can now preview how the site will look while configuring site colours. This makes it much easier for site managers to give their site the perfect look and feel.

  • Assigning/Moving content for groups

After a topic or event is created, the author, the organisers, and community managers can move the content to a group, out of a group, or to another group, (if enabled by the site manager). This saves users the trouble of creating content again if it was put in the wrong group during creation.

It is now also possible to specify a relevant group when creating a topic or event. This way, users don’t have to find a group first before creating content.

Via a setting, a SM can determine if regular users are allowed to move content to another group. By default this is disabled.

  • Profile banner image

Users can now add a banner image to their own profile. This provides users with more possibilities to express themselves with original images/content.
The fallback for profile remains the primary colour.

  • Users can enroll in an event without having to go through group sign up.

Previously, users had to first join groups in order to attend the events belonging to that group. Now, site managers can allow users to join events directly regardless of their group membership. The user also automatically becomes a group member this way.
Site managers can allow this behaviour per grouptype.

  • Rename ‘Topic’:

Now site managers can rename ‘Topic’ into something that suits their needs, such as projects, ideas, articles, etc. This way, the use of ‘Topics’ is more flexible.
Note: if you are using Open Social in a different language then English, this feature is not supported yet.

  • Group notifications:

Users will now start to receive notifications of the activities of the groups they have joined. This will make users more engaged in their groups and prevent users from misusing the mention function.
The email can be controlled via a setting on the account.

  • Hero areas are removed from editing and setting pages.

A hero area is the large area at the top of a profile, group, topic, or event page. Previously, it was also shown on editing and setting pages. Now they are removed to make these pages simpler and clearer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • New icon for embedding media:

A new embed media icon has been designed and implemented in the description fields to make this function clearer for its users.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Filter for group types on the all-groups page:

To filter all groups based on its type, a filter is added on the all-groups page.

  • Improve the Mention plugin with supporting CKEditor:

The mentions feature now has support for the CKEditor. This is not enabled by default. Do you have an Open Social installation where you use the WYSIWYG for example for comments? Then you immediately have this benefit of mentioning in the CKEditor.

Bug fixes

  • Better term for moving a member out of a group:

Instead of naming this function ‘delete member’, it is now named as ‘remove member’ in order to communicate this function more accurately.

  • Disable the comment attachment feature:

As a site manager it’s now possible to disable the attachments in comments feature after you’ve enabled it. The module now comes with a settings form where you can choose to disable the entire feature.

  • Add attachments' button colour config:

When enabling the module to add attachments to comments, a button appears underneath the comment. The text in the button now also changes according to the colour set in the theme.

  • Image upload requirements text is back:

The text that explains the image upload requirements is back

  • Direct link to comments go to the right position.

When users arrived at a comment from a link, the top part of the comment was covered by the header navigation menu.

  • Improved sitemanager personal settings page:

Previously for site managers, their personal settings page did not follow the look and feel of the platform. It is corrected in this release.

  • Comment and to comment - Translation issue:

In the English language Comment as name of content-type and Comment as verb for "to publish" is the same. But in other languages that's not the case. In German fe. it's "Kommentar" and "Kommentieren". This issue makes it possible to distinguish the comment button from other comment strings.

  • URLs in sidebar are not correct on language different to English:

The blocks in the sidebar have links to the overview of the content type they are showing. EG. Upcoming events block, shows 2 upcoming events. It also has a link to ‘All events’. Those links would become broken whenever second language was enabled. With this fix the links work properly again.

  • As SM I want to be able to insert buttons in body text:

It was already possible to insert classes on links in body text, but it wasn’t displayed (themed) as it should. Now when you add button classes on links in the body text (of an event for example) it will display like a button (primary, secondary, accent or link style will work with theme color settings).
